The Mosesian Center for the Arts in partnership with the Surface Design Association seeks artwork for its upcoming winter regional exhibition titled Threaded: Contemporary Fiber in New England. This exhibition will combine artwork from Surface Design Association members that reside in all 6 New England states (Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island) in a narrative that presents a unique perspective on the artistic voices of our region. The dialogue that will be created between the works of art in this exhibition will speak to the diversity of fiber arts and surface design in our region and is representative of the explorative nature of artists in Massachusetts.
The exhibition will be juried by Beth McLaughlin, Chief Curator of Exhibitions and Collections at the Fuller Craft Museum.
The MCA and SDA seek artwork in all fiber and surface design mediums as identified by the Surface Design Association’s membership criteria. 2D and 3D works will be considered. There is also an opportunity for site-specific installation proposals for the front entrance of the MCA facility. About the Juror:
Beth C. McLaughlin is Chief Curator of Exhibitions and Collections at Fuller Craft Museum in Brockton, Massachusetts. Ms. McLaughlin has held leadership and curatorial roles in the arts and museum fields for over 25 years at institutions across the U.S., including Fuller Craft Museum, Oakland Museum of California, and DeCordova Sculpture Park and Museum. She has curated over 45 exhibitions and has served as a juror/adjudicator for a number of cultural organizations, including American Craft Council, Fiber Art Now Excellence in Fibers, Massachusetts Cultural Council, Cherry Creek Arts Festival, Providence Holiday Art Sale, and the City of Worcester. Ms. McLaughlin has been published in several books and periodicals, such as Crafting Dissent: Handicraft as Protest from the American Revolution to the Pussyhats, Fiber Art Now, the Decorative Arts Society Newsletter, and American Craft Magazine. Ms. McLaughlin is passionate about expanding awareness of the craft field, promoting the makers, and exploring the transformative powers of handmade objects.

Please note that the Mosesian Center for the Arts reserves the right to make minor adjustments to the exhibition timeline. Artists will be notified of final dates in their acceptance letters.
Eligibility:
Artists who are members in good standing with the Surface Design Association and are residents of Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut or Rhode Island are eligible to apply. Local artists will be provided drop off time and date details upon acceptance. Non-local selected artists work must be received at the Mosesian Center for the Arts, 321 Arsenal Street, Watertown, MA 02472 c/o exhibitions by February 1, 2019. Non-local artists are responsible for shipping costs both to and from the MCA, unless other arrangements are made, and are responsible for insuring their work while in transit. If shipping work, each artist must provide a pre-paid, UPS or FedEx return shipping label including insurance. Please pack your work in sturdy reusable packaging. The Mosesian Center for the Arts carries appropriate insurance to cover all artwork in the show for the duration of the exhibition, including the time frame of drop-off, installation, de-installation and pick-up.
Submission Fee:
$30 for up to 3 submissions. Artwork must be submitted online at: mca-threadedsda.artcall.org.
Accessibility:
The MCA gallery spaces are fully accessible and we strive to make the exhibition submission process accessible to all artists as well. We encourage anyone to enter our open call exhibitions. Commission Structure:
Artists receive 60% commission and The Mosesian Center for the Arts receives 40% for art sold during the exhibition. The Artist reserves all copyrights and reproduction rights on the artwork in the exhibition. The Mosesian Center for the Arts may duplicate and reproduce images of work for purposes of public relations and exhibition announcements directly related to the exhibition.
